Basel, Switzerland – 3–4 October 2026

Cricket Switzerland successfully conducted an ICC Level 1 Coaching Course on 3 and 4 October 2026 in Basel, providing 13 participants with an opportunity to develop their knowledge and practical skills in cricket coaching.

The course was delivered by ICC Tutor Sharu Sadarangani, who travelled from Hamburg to Switzerland to lead the programme, with the support of Swiss assistant tutors Metty Fernandes and Shilpa Shankar.

Structured Learning and Practical Development

The two-day programme consisted of multiple theoretical and practical sessions designed to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of cricket coaching.

Throughout the course, participants were taken through the various elements of the ICC Level 1 coaching curriculum. Particular emphasis was placed on session planning, communication, organisation, player development and the practical delivery of coaching activities.

The participants were actively engaged throughout the programme and were required to apply the concepts introduced during the sessions. The practical components provided an opportunity to develop their coaching skills under the guidance and supervision of the tutors.

Practical Assessment

The course concluded with an individual practical assessment. Each participant was required to independently plan and deliver a coaching session as part of the final assessment.

This provided the tutors with an opportunity to assess each participant’s ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the course and to determine their readiness to undertake coaching responsibilities.

The practical assessment also provided participants with valuable experience in independently managing a coaching session, communicating with players and adapting activities to the requirements of the group.

Strengthening the Coaching Pathway in Switzerland

The development of qualified coaches is an important component of Cricket Switzerland’s continued efforts to strengthen cricket at all levels. Well-trained coaches are essential to supporting player development, establishing a strong grassroots structure and providing positive and sustainable opportunities for participation in cricket.

The completion of the ICC Level 1 course represents another important step in expanding the pool of trained coaches available to clubs and development programmes across Switzerland.

Cricket Switzerland extends its sincere appreciation to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for its continued support of coach education and development.

We would also like to express our particular thanks to Sharu Sadarangani for travelling from Hamburg to deliver the course and for sharing his extensive coaching experience with the participants. Our appreciation also goes to Metty Fernandes and Shilpa Shankar for their valuable support as assistant tutors and for their contribution to the successful delivery of the programme.

Finally, Cricket Switzerland congratulates all 13 participants for their commitment and active participation throughout the course and wishes them every success as they take the next step in their coaching journey. Cricket Switzerland remains committed to investing in coach education and developing a strong, qualified coaching network to support the continued growth of cricket across the country.
