Cricket Switzerland Hosts Second ICC Level 1 Umpiring Course of 2026 in Basel

Cricket Switzerland successfully conducted its second ICC Level 1 Umpiring Course of 2026 in Basel on 17–18 October, bringing together 14 enthusiastic participants from different regions of Switzerland.

The two-day course was delivered by ICC Tutors Jay Singh and C. Balajee, who guided participants through the essential knowledge and skills required to begin their journey as cricket umpires. The programme provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the Laws of Cricket and develop a deeper appreciation of the responsibilities and role of an umpire.

The course was well received, with participants demonstrating great enthusiasm, active engagement and a strong commitment to developing their officiating skills.

Cricket Switzerland extends its sincere thanks to Jay Singh and C. Balajee for sharing their expertise and guiding the participants throughout the course. We also congratulate all 14 participants on their dedication and commitment to furthering their knowledge of the game.

Developing the Next Generation of Cricket Umpires

Cricket Switzerland is committed to building a strong and sustainable umpiring pathway that provides aspiring officials with the knowledge, practical experience and qualifications needed to progress in the game. Through its umpiring education programme, the organisation aims to increase the number of qualified umpires across Switzerland and support their development from grassroots cricket to national and international competitions.

The ICC Level 1 Umpiring Course represents an important first step in this journey, providing participants with a solid foundation in the Laws of Cricket and the essential skills required to officiate matches. This foundation can be further developed through practical match experience, continued learning and progression to higher levels of umpiring education.

Alongside delivering training courses, Cricket Switzerland is working to strengthen the quality and availability of umpiring across its domestic competitions by encouraging more individuals to become qualified officials and supporting their ongoing development. These efforts aim to build a confident, competent and well-supported umpiring community, while creating opportunities for Swiss officials to progress towards higher-level and international appointments.

Building a Stronger Umpiring Community

This was the second of three ICC Level 1 Umpiring Courses planned by Cricket Switzerland for 2026. These initiatives form part of the organisation’s continued commitment to education, expanding its pool of qualified officials and supporting the sustainable growth of cricket across the country.

By investing in umpiring education and creating clear opportunities for development and progression, Cricket Switzerland aims to ensure that clubs and competitions have access to knowledgeable, confident and well-prepared officials.
