The opening day of our Italy tour brought both excitement and challenges as the CH U19 National Team faced the Italy Aggregate Team in a T20 clash.
Travel complications set the tone early, with a late arrival caused by heavy congestion through the Swiss Alps tunnels and Italian motorways on Good Friday. Despite the delays, the match commenced only 30 minutes behind schedule—a testament to the determination of both teams to get the game underway.
The setting couldn’t have been better. With temperatures in the low 20s and clear skies overhead, conditions were ideal for cricket. After winning the toss, CH U19 elected to bat first, aiming to set a competitive total on what appeared to be a slow outfield.
The batting unit delivered a composed and disciplined performance, posting a respectable 120 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Given the nature of the ground and the strength of the opposition, this total stood as a convincing challenge.
The bowlers responded brilliantly at the start of the Italian innings, striking twice early and putting immediate pressure on the opposition. However, momentum began to shift as a few dropped catches and a number of extras allowed Italy to rebuild. These lapses slightly dampened the team’s energy and opened the door for a closer contest.
As the game approached its final stages, fading light became an increasing concern. Ultimately, the match was abandoned due to insufficient luminosity, cutting short what was shaping up to be a competitive finish.
Final Score:
CH U19 – 120/8 (20.0 overs)
Italy Aggregate – 103/5 (18.3 overs)
While the result remained inconclusive, there were plenty of positives to take forward—solid batting under pressure, early breakthroughs with the ball, and valuable lessons in maintaining intensity in the field.
A promising start to the tour, with more to come.
