The Cricket Switzerland U-12 team recently returned from a memorable tour of Surrey, England, combining competitive cricket with valuable learning experiences, new friendships and plenty of special moments along the way.
The tour gave our young cricketers the opportunity to test themselves against strong English opposition while experiencing different grounds, pitches and playing conditions.
Four Wins from Six Matches
The Swiss team played six matches during the tour, facing strong opposition from Epsom, Rokeby School, Cobham & Esher Cricket Clubs and Cranleigh.
The young Swiss side produced some excellent performances, winning four of their six matches. The results were a fantastic reward for the players’ hard work and commitment, but the real success of the tour was seeing the players grow in confidence and develop their game with every match.
Playing against experienced English youth teams also provided valuable lessons in adapting to different conditions and responding to new challenges.
More Than Just Cricket
One of the highlights of the tour was the opportunity to play at a variety of excellent cricket grounds. Every venue offered something different, giving the players valuable experience and encouraging them to adapt their skills and approach.
The weather also played its part, providing excellent conditions throughout the tour—something that everyone on an English cricket tour was particularly grateful for!
Beyond the cricket itself, the tour was an excellent opportunity for cultural exchange and for the young players to experience the welcoming traditions of English cricket.
A particularly memorable gesture came from Rokeby School, where the hosts painted a small Swiss flag on the ground to welcome the visiting team. It was a wonderful touch and perfectly captured the friendship and spirit that ran throughout the tour.
The Spirit of Cricket
The matches were played in a competitive but friendly atmosphere, with our English hosts demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and hospitality.
For the Cricket Switzerland players, these experiences are an important part of their development. International tours provide young cricketers with opportunities not only to improve their technical and tactical skills, but also to develop confidence, independence, teamwork and respect for opponents.
Fantastic Support from Parents
The success of the tour would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the parents.
From cheering enthusiastically from the boundary to helping with logistics and supporting the players throughout the tour, the parents created a fantastic atmosphere around the team.
Their encouragement and commitment helped make the experience enjoyable for everyone involved and ensured that the players could focus on making the most of their opportunity.
A Tour to Remember
The Surrey tour was a wonderful experience for the Cricket Switzerland U-12 team. The four victories were an excellent achievement, but the greatest success was seeing the players gain confidence, compete against talented opposition and develop both on and off the field.
The friendships formed, lessons learned and memories created will stay with the players for a long time.
Cricket has a unique ability to bring people together, and this tour was a wonderful example of that—six matches, four victories, new friendships, great sportsmanship and even a painted Swiss flag to remember it all by.
