Swiss U15 Invitational Match Day

Hard, Embrach (Friday 14th May 2021)

Report by Michael Hall (Swiss U15 Coach)

The Ascension long weekend usually sees national age group squads touring clubs in Surrey. The COVID-19 pandemic however has meant that travel has not been possible. In lieu of the tour, an invitational match day was hosted at the new pitch in Embrach with some of the best U15s in the country.

Having a whole day presented the opportunity to play a longer format match, similar to what would be played in the UK. Perhaps displaying exactly the need for days like this, the first innings only lasted 24 of the 35 overs, with captain Sasha (ZCCC) left stranded. ZCCC’s Arya did most of the damage with figures of 3-25. Club mate Dhruv picked up 2-4 and Gingin’s Will took 2-8. Charlie’s (BDJCC) team polished off the runs in short order with Jai (Cossonay) top scoring with 29* and ZCCC’s Shankar not far behind on 23*.

Charlie’s team batted first in the second game and GRYCC’s Adarsh got them off to a flier finishing with 40*. Shankar went better and brought up a half-century with a six to finish on 54*, and Charlie provided to middle order impetus with 39* to help rack up 214 runs. ZCCC’s Danyal was the pick of the bowlers with 2-13. In reply, Sasha’s team struggled to stay with the required rate, but did manage to bat out the overs, showing learning from the first match.

U15 invitational 2021

While both matches ended up quite one-sided, these matches are less about the result but more about the development of the players, as well as an opportunity to break down the club boundaries. The games were played with great attitude, enthusiasm and fun and all the players showed development from the day.
