As we approach the 2021 season, Covid-19 corona virus perseveres and now threatens to infringe on a second consecutive season. It continues to have a negative impact on the everyday lives of cricketers across the country.
The 2020 season came to a satisfying conclusion and it is planned to run 2021 much the same.
The measures introduced by the Federal Council to slow down the second wave of the pandemic came into effect in December 2020 and remain in effect.
While juniors are free to train in small groups & without masks, senior have had to abandon any plans for indoor training as of 1st Match are limited to groups of 15 outdoors.
Having forced the cancellation of the series of autumn indoor cricket tournaments organised by Gingins Cricket Club for the U11, U13 & U15 age groups, the annual Basel indoors series are now under threat.
End of season club dinners & social evenings had to be abandoned and the winners of the season’s best trophies & awards had to be content with receiving their accolades privately. Now club AGMs are likely to be affected, unless, like Cricket Switzerland, they are able to move online.
It remains a Cricket Switzerland priority to keep ourselves, our families and our fellow country-folk safe. To date, sport has not been a driver for the virus and we don’t intend that it will be in 2021. “The end is in sight, but we need to continue to be patient and work together, to respect the measures affecting us all, to help us through this.”, said Alex Mackay.
The next update is expected at the end of March.
