Bachgraben has established itself as one of the permanent cricket facilities in Switzerland and, over the past several years, has become a key venue for the sport. The ground has hosted multiple Cricket Switzerland finals events, making it an important stage for some of the country’s most competitive and memorable matches.
On 12 March 2026, Basel Cricket Club marked another milestone by officially upgrading the Bachgraben ground with a brand-new Notts wicket. After nine years of dedicated service, the previous pitch—particularly worn at the batting ends from years of intense play—was retired to make way for a new and improved playing surface.
To ensure consistent bounce and long-term stability, the base of the wicket was fully re-compacted before the installation of the new surface. This careful groundwork will help provide players with a reliable pitch that meets the standards expected for high-level cricket in Switzerland.
The upgrades did not stop with the playing surface. In an important step toward improving player and spectator safety, the perimeter fencing between the cricket and football fields has been raised to 12 meters. This enhancement significantly reduces the risk of stray cricket balls interrupting neighboring activities and helps ensure a safer environment for everyone using the sports complex.
A Huge Thank You
This important project was made possible through the generous full funding and unwavering support of the Basel Sport Authorities. Their continued commitment to developing sports infrastructure has been instrumental in supporting the growth of cricket in the Canton of Basel and across Switzerland.
With the new wicket and enhanced safety measures now in place, Bachgraben is well positioned to continue hosting major matches and cricket events for many years to come, further strengthening its role as one of Switzerland’s key cricket venues.
