The long-anticipated Cricket on Ice 2026 tournament once again brought international ice-cricket action to the frozen lake at St. Moritz. Teams from across Europe and beyond competed in a tightly contested four-day festival of cricket played on hard-packed snow and ice, combining sporting excellence with one of the most spectacular backdrops in world cricket.

In the showpiece match on Saturday afternoon, defending champions Tallinn Hippos delivered a commanding performance to retain their title. Batting first on a challenging surface, they set a competitive total of 132, built on disciplined stroke play and intelligent running between the wickets.

Flamingo Cricket Club struggled to build sustained partnerships in reply. The Hippos’ bowling attack proved decisive, with Ragne Hallik (3–0–13–4), Dave Robson (2–0–7–2) and Sanjay Beri (3–1–15–2) dismantling the batting line-up to secure a comprehensive 60-run victory and another memorable triumph on the ice.

Preliminary Round Highlights

Wednesday, 11 February

Flamingos opened their campaign with a comfortable win over St. Moritz CC (98–5 vs 72–7). Tallinn Hippos began strongly with a 12-run victory against Old Cholmeleians (94–3 vs 82–6). German CC defeated Guards CC by 23 runs, while Touring Cavaliers set the tone with a convincing 34-run win over Lyceum Alpinum XI.

Thursday, 12 February

Guards CC bounced back to beat St. Moritz CC by 41 runs. Tallinn Hippos produced one of the standout performances of the group stage, overpowering Lyceum Alpinum XI by 77 runs. German CC edged past Flamingos in a thrilling one-run contest, and Touring Cavaliers maintained momentum with a 22-run win over Old Cholmeleians.

Friday, 13 February

St. Moritz CC defeated German CC by eight wickets (75–2 vs 74–7), ending German CC’s hopes of reaching the final. Old Cholmeleians beat Lyceum Alpinum XI by 39 runs (134–5 vs 95–2), consigning LAZ to eighth place. Flamingos secured their place in Saturday’s final with a five-wicket win over Guards CC, chasing 102 with five balls to spare (103–5 vs 102–5). Tallinn Hippos confirmed their title defence opportunity with a dominant 60-run victory over Touring Cavaliers (153–7 vs 93–7).

Finals Day – Saturday, 14 February

The remaining classification matches produced further spirited competition, with teams battling hard to secure their final positions. St. Moritz CC and German CC recorded important wins to improve their standings, while Guards CC and Lyceum Alpinum XI competed with determination throughout.

Tournament Atmosphere

Cricket on Ice 2026 once again demonstrated why this event holds a unique place in the cricketing calendar. The frozen lake of St. Moritz provided a breathtaking alpine setting, while the standard of cricket reflected the growing strength and diversity of the participating clubs.

The tournament was further enriched by live commentary from Henry Blofeld alongside Rash Mahmood and guests, adding insight and entertainment for spectators. Off the field, the traditional Tournament Dinner at Hotel Laudinella brought together players, officials, and supporters in celebration of another successful edition.

Cricket on Ice 2026 combined competition, camaraderie, and a spectacular winter landscape—once again proving that cricket truly can be played anywhere.
