A weekend of competitive cricket, valuable learning and strong team spirit saw the Cricket Switzerland U13 national team finish as runners-up at the Roger Barker Tournament 2026 in Luxembourg.

The Cricket Switzerland U13 team travelled to Luxembourg on 13–14 June 2026 for the Roger Barker Tournament, an international youth competition bringing together promising young cricketers from Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.

The tournament provided an excellent opportunity for the Swiss players to test themselves against quality international opposition, experience pressure situations and continue their development both individually and as a team.

Strong Start for Switzerland

Switzerland began the tournament in impressive fashion, recording a convincing nine-wicket victory over Germany U13.

The team followed that performance with another strong display against the hosts, defeating Luxembourg U13 by four wickets.

With two victories from their opening matches, Switzerland entered their final league fixture against Belgium with confidence.

A Thrilling Contest Against Belgium

The league-stage meeting between Switzerland and Belgium proved to be one of the most exciting matches of the tournament.

The two teams produced a closely fought encounter in which neither side was able to gain a decisive advantage. After a tense contest, the match finished tied, underlining just how evenly matched the two teams were.

The result secured Switzerland’s place in the tournament final, setting up a fascinating rematch against Belgium.

Belgium Edge a Closely Contested Final

The final once again brought Switzerland face-to-face with Belgium.

Having already tied their league encounter, both teams knew each other well and the final promised another competitive battle.

The Swiss U13 players showed determination and resilience throughout the match, but Belgium ultimately held their nerve and finished 21 runs ahead to claim the tournament title.

For Switzerland, the result was disappointing in the immediate aftermath, particularly after such a strong tournament, but the performance provided another valuable learning experience for the young players.

The results were encouraging, but perhaps more important was the way the players responded to the different challenges presented throughout the weekend.

Growing Confidence and Game Awareness

The tournament provided valuable opportunities for the players to put lessons from training and previous tours into practice.

Across the four matches, the squad demonstrated increasing confidence in their cricketing abilities, improved awareness of match situations and a growing ability to adapt their approach depending on the circumstances.

Several matches required patience, composure and good decision-making under pressure. The players responded positively, supporting one another and maintaining a strong team attitude throughout the competition.

The ability to learn from these experiences will be an important part of their continued development as young cricketers.

Building a Strong Team Culture

The value of an international youth tour goes well beyond the results on the scoreboard.

Spending a weekend together away from the usual training environment provided an important opportunity for the players to strengthen friendships, develop communication and build trust within the squad.

These experiences help create the foundations of a strong team culture and teach young players the importance of supporting their teammates, remaining positive during difficult moments and celebrating each other’s successes.

The Swiss U13 squad demonstrated these qualities throughout the tournament.

Representing Switzerland With Pride

Most importantly, the players represented Cricket Switzerland with pride, sportsmanship and professionalism both on and off the field.

Their positive attitude and respect for opponents, officials and coaches were a credit to the squad. The ability to compete hard while maintaining excellent sporting values is an important part of representing Switzerland at international level.

The experience of playing close matches against strong opposition, including a high-pressure final, will provide valuable lessons that the players can carry forward into future competitions and tours.

A Big Thank You

Cricket Switzerland would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the parents, coaches and volunteers whose support, commitment and hard work helped make this tour possible.

Their contribution behind the scenes is essential to providing young players with opportunities to travel, compete internationally and develop both on and off the field.

And, most importantly, a huge thank you to the boys for their effort, enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment throughout the weekend.

A Tournament to Be Proud Of

The Cricket Switzerland U13 team may have returned from Luxembourg with a runners-up trophy, but they brought home much more than silverware.

They gained valuable experience against international opposition, learned how to perform under pressure, strengthened their friendships and developed as a team.

The character, resilience and sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the weekend provide a strong foundation for the future.

Everyone involved can be proud of what this group achieved in Luxembourg. The experience will form another important step in their development, and Cricket Switzerland looks forward to seeing these young players continue to grow, learn and progress together in the years ahead.

🇨🇭 Congratulations to the Cricket Switzerland U13 squad on an excellent tournament and a well-deserved runners-up finish! 🥈
