On the 10th of November, Cricket Switzerland organized the S-Focus Introduction to Umpiring course in Geneva, an initiative aimed at enhancing the pool of qualified cricket umpires in the region. The session, which saw the active participation of around 17 aspiring umpires, was a resounding success.
The course was expertly delivered by Mr. Jay Singh, Cricket Switzerland’s Lead Tutor, who brought a wealth of experience and insights to the participants. Joining him were Tutors Mr. Yateendra Singh and Mr. Mandar Sathe, both of whom made significant contributions to the program.
The session kicked off indoors, where Mr. Jay Singh covered the essential rules and intricacies of cricket umpiring, ensuring everyone had a strong foundation.
A Comprehensive Curriculum
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Tutor Balajee Chandrasekhar, who played a crucial role in compiling comprehensive course material, participants had access to well-structured learning resources. The morning indoor session focused on understanding the laws of the game, decision-making processes, and practical applications, which laid the groundwork for what was to come.
The afternoon session brought the course to life outdoors, where participants engaged in practical exercises, applying what they learned under real-game conditions.
Hands-On Practical Training
In the second half of the day, participants moved outdoors for hands-on training. The Tutors set up a mini cricket field, demonstrating umpiring positions, signals, and critical match scenarios. The practical training was designed to simulate real match experiences, giving participants a chance to practice decision-making on the field.
Lead Tutor Mr. Jay Singh, along with other Tutors, provided live demonstrations, guiding participants on how to handle match situations confidently and effectively.
Building a Stronger Umpiring Community
The engagement and enthusiasm shown by the participants highlight the growing interest in professional umpiring within the Geneva cricket community. Cricket Switzerland is committed to furthering this momentum by planning additional courses across the country, aiming to expand and strengthen the umpiring fraternity.
