Dec 22, 2022 | 2022

The 2022 Emerging Player of the Year Trophies were presented by the Nicolas Henderson at a Swiss Under 19 squad training day on December 17th.

The trophies, which are presented to the best Swiss U23 batsman and best Swiss U23 bowler, were awarded to Numan Ahmadzai and Jamal Stanikzai.

Numan Ahmadzai (Swiss Afghan CC), who was still an U17 player during the 2022 season, had an excellent summer with the bat, playing 23 matches, and was key to his club’s promotion to the Premier League. He also recommended himself for the Swiss national squad when he played for the Swiss Men’s Representative XI in the international St. Gallen T20 tournament scoring a fine half-century and a superb century. In the Swiss T10 Championship he was ranked the 2nd best batsman, while in the 40-over CS National League he was the 5th best batsman.

Jamal Stanikzai (Olten CC), another U17 player, was outstanding with the ball in all formats of the game. His ability to turn the ball produced 48 wickets including two 5 wicket hauls, one in the final of the Pickwick T20 Cup. In the 23 matches he played during the season his 80 overs went at an exceptional 5.43 runs an over. He was the best bowler in the Swiss T10 Championship, the 2nd best in the Pickwick T20 Cup and the 9th best bowler in the Premier League.

Congratulations to both these players and we wish them all the best for the coming season in 2023.
