A Swiss Under 19 squad trained for the first time together since 2018

Since 2018, when the Swiss U19 Academy successfully travelled to Barbados to compete in the Sir Garfield Sobers International School Cricket Tournament, there have been no U19 meetings. On 26/27 November twenty players from seven clubs (Olten, Zurich Crickets, Aargau, Wettingen, Berne, Geneva Sri Lankan and Swiss Afghan) met together in Basel to form the beginnings of a Swiss Under 19 XI.

On the first day, with the introduction of several exercises, it was impressed upon the squad from the start that fitness will be key to developing the necessary skills and attitude towards what will be required in international matches. Players then went through various batting, bowling, and fielding drills to give the coaches an idea of the ability levels of the individual players. This is clearly a competitive group that is keen to learn and improve.

On the second day, fitness drills and fielding workouts served as a warm-up for two training matches. Coaches utilized match situations to speak to individual players, captains, and the teams. Both players and coaches clearly benefited from the opportunity to work together, and our thanks go to Nitin for initiating this new development, as well as Ed for organising the halls in Basel.

It is planned that the squad meets again in mid-December and the beginning of January when there will also be the option of more intensive work with the bat in the nets at Adliswil.
