Cricket Facilities in Switzerland
Cricket is played on public sports fields and school grounds, equipped with artificial pitches. Thanks to the support of local sports councils, several locations, including Basel, C.E.R.N., Cossonay, Embrach, Geneva, and Winterthur, feature permanent NottsSport© surfaces.
Notably, Cossonay, near Lausanne, boasts Switzerland’s only purpose-built cricket ground, exclusively dedicated to the sport.
Youth Cricket

Youth Cricket in Switzerland: A Remarkable Journey
From a modest beginning in 2005 with just a handful of enthusiastic juniors, Cricket Switzerland’s Youth Development Scheme now engages over 1,000 youngsters aged 6 to 17. The youth cricket movement continues to flourish, with participation growing year by year.
Cricket has spread across Switzerland, with tournaments held at the Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 levels. The sport’s popularity extends to international and local schools, captivating both boys and girls. This has enabled the seamless integration of Swiss youth into a sport that was once unfamiliar in the country.
More Than Just a Sport
Youth cricket in Switzerland offers young people the opportunity to:
- Stay healthy and active in their free time.
- Build constructive social connections with peers.
- Interact within a multi-cultural environment, fostering tolerance and understanding.
Swiss parents appreciate cricket’s emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, and its absence of the aggressive edge often seen in football and ice hockey. Additionally, the game allows their children to improve their English language skills while mingling with peers from diverse backgrounds. For expatriate families, youth cricket provides a familiar and welcoming activity that eases their transition into Swiss life.
A Collective Effort
The growth of youth cricket has been fueled by the active participation of parents, many of whom have completed ECB coaching courses. With dozens of qualified coaches dedicating their time weekly to nurture young talent, even more coaching programs are planned to sustain this momentum.
Recognition and Growth
The rapid progress of youth cricket in Switzerland has caught the attention of the International Cricket Council (ICC), earning the country several European awards for its dedication and innovation.
Swiss youth cricket is a testament to the power of sports to bring communities together, shape young lives, and create a lasting impact.
