Basel, Switzerland – Cricket Switzerland proudly celebrated the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Cricket Week on 19th of October with a vibrant day of sport, learning, and community at the Pfaffenholz Sports Centre in Saint Louis, just across the border from Basel.
The celebration featured an exciting Junior Girls’ Indoor Cricket League, a CRIIIO event for women, and a lively community watch party – all aimed at fostering participation and enthusiasm for women’s cricket across Switzerland.
Girls under 13 from across the country came together to display their skill, teamwork, and growing passion for the game. The spirited matches highlighted the remarkable progress of women’s and girls’ cricket in Switzerland, reflecting the dedication of players, coaches, and regional clubs.
Adding to the inspiration, members of the Swiss Women’s National Team and club players from various regions joined the event, sharing techniques, stories, and motivation with the young participants.
In line with the ICC’s CRIIIO initiative, the event also featured engaging activities designed to make cricket fun and accessible for women of all ages and experience levels.
The celebrations continued with a watch party for the India vs England ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match, where participants, families, and cricket fans gathered to cheer and connect with the global cricketing community. The shared enthusiasm created an energetic and festive atmosphere throughout the day.
In total, more than 80 participants took part in the day’s activities, underscoring Cricket Switzerland’s commitment to inclusivity, participation, and development in women’s cricket.
“Events like this show how much the women’s game is growing in Switzerland,” said a Cricket Switzerland representative. “We’re proud to see so many young girls and community members embracing cricket with such energy and joy.”
